Fire Safety Plan Vaughan

Does Your Building in Vaughan Require a Fire Safety Plan?

Under Section 2.8 of the Ontario Fire Code, Fire Safety Plans are mandatory for many types of buildings and occupancies.

Properties that may require a Fire Safety Plan include:

  • Apartment buildings and residential complexes

  • Restaurants, banquet halls and assembly occupancies

  • Daycare centres and childcare facilities

  • Commercial and office buildings, depending on occupant load

  • Warehouses, manufacturing facilities and industrial properties, depending on occupancy classification and occupant load

  • Retirement homes, care facilities and certain group homes

  • Shopping centres and retail properties, depending on occupant load

Requirements depend on the building's occupancy classification, occupant load and other applicable Fire Code provisions.

A Fire Safety Plan must be prepared, approved and implemented where required by the Ontario Fire Code. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service is the municipal fire authority responsible for fire prevention and enforcement within the City.

  • Tenants, occupant load or operations

  • Fire alarm, sprinkler or other fire protection systems

  • Emergency contacts or supervisory staff duties

  • Renovations, additions or construction work
